I don't understand them. Why do they wear dresses and not pants? Why can't they get thier ears peirced? Why can't the NOT wear a braid??

Some people do this because they believe that is what is modest, and modesty is a virtue for them. Obviously they have strict standards. I think it's a bit cool, actually. I've never dressed that way, but when I see religious women dressed differently from the norm, I find it interesting.

The have selected a few verses from the Old Testament to live by. One that says that women were not to dress like men, of course from what I understand of clohting from Biblical days the men wore robes (dresses) that were more ornate than those of the women so I am not sure why they feel they have to wear dresses. The other scripture says that your hair is to be your "crowning glory" my crowning glory looks much better short than long and stringy.

I think you are speaking of the Mennonites and some other Christian denominations. They take very literally the scripture that says long hair is a woman's glory; piercing the ears is seen as vain. They wear dresses because the Bible speaks against women dressing up like men and men like women. Most people today think that means cross-dressing, since you can wear pants and obviously still be a woman. But they are very devout; they live what they believe, I must say that for them.

I love to wear dress. It makes me feel feminine and pretty. Dresses are so comfortable too.

because they take a certain part of the bible and blow it way out of context. the apostle paul just wanted to let his followers know that how you dress for chirch is not important. These people took it way out of context and now they impose some man made restrictions on their followers.
